Event Description

We are delighted to present to you on Saturday 19th of March, an Afro Ndombolo dance workshop. An hour and half of various old and new school Afro & Ndombolo dance moves with our very own Steven, who has toured many countries to share his passion for dance in collaboration with a special guest all the way from Germany Vivian.

Founder of MOTEMA Afro movement, Choreographer, Dance Artist and interpret, Steven is originally from Congo, but has moved to South Africa for 9 years, where he established his own dance school. He, then, has traveled, taught and performed in countries like: Mozambique, Senegal, Brazil, Belgium, France, USA and UK, a variety of African dances. He is fresh from an intensive study in African Contemporary and Traditional Dance at the renowned Ecole des Sables in Senegal.

His energy is electric and his class is very welcoming to all dance levels! Check him out by yourself.

Vivian Luw (with a silent w) is a German of Congolese descent dancer, who has found her passion for dance at the age of 8. She liked to reproduce choreographies of famous musicians such as Destiny's Child, Usher, Aaliyah, Britney Spears not to forget various Congolese musicians. Growing up, it was quickly noticed at family celebrations that she could "swing a leg". She, then, started taking dance classes in a parish home. Few years later, at the age of 14, she ran the management of the group lessons, and her teaching skills began molding itself.

Four years later, together with two of her friends, they founded the Afro dance group "VRS Dance Crew", with which they became pioneers of the newborn Afro Dance scene in Germany and performed at events such as: the Berlin Fashion Week (edition 2014). After two and half years of wonderful memories, VRS Dance Crew broke up and split up. Vivian had decided to focus on her administrative studies, but has always kept dancing close to her heart.

Knowing that dance is and has always been an immense part of her being and that she can really make a difference in her community with it. Afroville Dance was born; it is nothing but the result of her childhood dream of one day founding her own dance school.

Dancing is her identity. It's in her DNA. She sees it more than just a hobby, mainly as something that describes her as a person. "Afro dance is like home for me. One of the best tools to represent my Congolese identity, culture and roots" She said.

Her dance style is a mix of various Africans and Afro descendants dances such as: Ndombolo, HipHop and Dancehall. What Vivian can give to you along the way as a dancer is described in her motto: "Why be good when you can also be great?"

The workshop will be touching on Afro dance trending moves, fundamentals of some African Urban and Traditional Dances and of course the Ndombolo style. The first half will be an “easy” warm up and breakdown of different movements, and in the second half we will be learning an easy to remember Ndombolo choreography.

We're excited to share our energies and experiences with you and can't wait to see you on the dance floor.

This is the place to be on Saturday 19th February if you wanna have a lot of fun learning something new and stay in shape.
